Summer Reading



Along with the assigned summer reading, the teachers may assign a project or give a written test.  Please refer to the information that will be sent home with your child at the end of the year.  Summer reading will count as a reading grade(s), depending on the teacher's requirements.

SUMMER READING: Please note that the following books will be required reading for all grades over the summer.

Going into 2nd Grade: Students should read any 3 books of their choice on their AR level.

Going into 3rd Grade: Choose one of the following:

1)       Freckle Juice by Judy Blume

2)       The Littles by John Peterson

Going into 4th Grade: Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume.

Going into 5th grade: A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck

Going into 6th Grade: Students must read #1 and choose a book from #2

1) The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

2) Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse OR

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan OR

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling OR

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

Going into 7th Grade: Students must choose and read 3 books from the summer reading list. See the documentation for 7th grade below.
