Girl Scouts
The Girl Scout troops at Mary, Queen of Peace offer an opportunity for community building among girls of all ages. If you are interested in volunteering as a troop leader or require further information, contact the ministry leader, Maria Dum at mdum@maryqueenofpeace.org.

Liturgy of the Word, Children
On Sunday during the 8 a.m. Mass, we offer Liturgy of the Word for children in grades first through fourth grades. At 9:30 a.m. Mass, we will offer Liturgy of the Word for Children in pre-K through first grade and Liturgy of the Word for Children in second through fourth grade. The children are dismissed from Mass with a facilitator. They listen to the Gospel read from the Children’s Lectionary and then discuss the Gospel on a level that is appropriate to their age. Registration is not required to attend. For more information or to volunteer, contact ministry leader Ann Costa, costagirls@charter.net or mqpchildrensliturgy@gmail.com.

Religious Education

Religious Education is provided for young people from Kindergarten through high school. Families must be registered parishioners of Mary, Queen of Peace.

All pre-school children through fourth grade children are encouraged to attend Children's Liturgy of the Word every Sunday during 9:30 am Mass. This does not count as formal Religious Education but as enrichment to your child's faith life.

A kindergarten program is now available on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons during regular Religious Education classes. No K class on Wednesday evening. The curriculum is based on the guidelines set by the Archdiocese of New Orleans in conjunction with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. A text approved by the Archdiocese is used. Registration is required and limited space is available. Classes for grades 1 through 6 are scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Grades 7 through 10 are held on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Classes are one hour and 15 minutes. The curriculum guidelines and approved textbooks set by the Archdiocese and the USCCB are used. We also teach Child Protection and do criminal background checks on all teachers and staff. Registration is required and tuition at present is $60 per child up through 4 children. For more information, contact DRE Jewell Bayhi at 674.9794 or jbayhi@maryqueenofpeace.org.

Sacramental Preparation

It is the policy of the Archdiocese that all children receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation attend two full years of religious education classes in CCD or Catholic School before the immediate preparation for the sacrament. Preparation is handled in the church parish by the Religious Education department, not by the Catholic school. Confirmation is held in 11th grade and therefore students must have attended 9th and 10th grade. Confirmation classes are held on Sunday evenings. Reconciliation and Eucharist are usually prepared for in the second grade. All three of the sacraments require parent meetings and support of the program by parents, whether the child is in Catholic, pubic or private school. Home materials are used along with classroom materials for each preparation. Interviews are held with parents and the child present before sacraments can be received. Please note that all children in 1st through 12th grade should attend Religious Education classes either in the church parish or in a Catholic school. The Archdiocese recognizes no other programs or schools for preparing your child's Religious Faith formation. For more information, or if you have questions, contact DRE Jewell Bayhi at jbayhi@maryqueenofpeace.org or 674-9794.
