KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Mary,  Queen of Peace Council #12072 was formed on October 21, 1997.  We presently have 169  members in our council and are still growing.  Membership is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, 18 years of age or older.

A Knights of Columbus Council can work wonders; in fact, with its many programs, it can help change the community,  town, city or neighborhood.  However, a successful KC program is more than the words you see written here or in any Supreme Council  publication.  It’s more than a suggestion at a meeting.  A program needs people taking the initial idea, modifying it to suit specific situations and local needs, them implementing the program in a way that works.  We are a “Catholic,  family,  fraternal, service organization.”   This theme permeates the entire Service Program; all church, community, council, family, and youth activities.

CATHOLIC – the common denominator for all our members.

FAMILY – the very basis of society around which all our programs and  activities evolve.

FRATERNAL – banded  together for the purpose of providing for the spiritual and material welfare of our membership.

SERVICE – our involvement with and commitment to Church, community, council, family and youth.

The Knights currently meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in joining or obtaining more information, please contact the ministry leader, Nick Lonergan at 727-3600 or e-mail nlonergan@yahoo.com.

Women's Club

The Women's Club of Mary, Queen of Peace Parish began to serve the Parish in September, 1999.  Membership is open to any woman parishioner of Mary, Queen of Peace.   Functions and meetings are open to all women of the parish, whether they are a member or not.  The Women's Club is a service organization created to serve all parishioners in a time of need through the Outreach Committee; to clean the Church and to wash and iron linens for Masses through Martha's Society; and to provide receptions for important Parish occasions through the Hospitality Committee.   The Women's Club serves as an umbrella organization for several ministries that offer services for the Mary, Queen of Peace family.  We welcome this opportunity to acquaint you with their hard work and offer everyone, men and women, a chance to offer talents and service throughout the year.

The Outreach Ministry is a service organization whose members volunteer their time and talent to prepare meals for individuals or families within our parish community who are in need of assistance because of illness or other hardship.  The ministry is also currently expanding to include sitting and other non-professional services.   Anyone in need is encouraged to contact one of the coordinators of this ministry, Carol Holland at 626-5066 or Gwen Dykes at 892-8202, or call Brenda in the Church office at 626-6977.  Anyone interested in volunteering to prepare meals should also contact Gwen (892-8202) or Carol (626-5066).

Martha's Society is a special and integral part of the spiritual experience at Mary, Queen of Peace.  These tireless workers wash and iron linens and see to it that the church is in order, neat and ready everyone to focus on God's Word each Sunday and weekday Mass.  These ministry members "make ready the house of the Lord to welcome all His guests."  They do light cleaning and polishing of the altar furniture and pews, and wash, iron and fold altar linens.  Every Friday after 9:00 am Mass, there are a few dedicated souls to straighten books, pull up kneelers, and gather articles left in pews to get ready for the weekend Masses.  In the Spring and the Fall, they oversee a gathering of all parishioners who give the Church a special cleaning:  oiling, wiping and cleaning all altar furniture and pews.  We can each do our part every time we leave Church.  Straighten books and pick up any stray papers or articles you might find.  Lift the kneelers.  Let the adults show the children how we should leave the Lord's house, and they will learn from example.  Then we shall always be able to take pride in our Church, whenever anyone visits, any day of the week!  If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about this ministry, please call Cindy Durtsche, 892-6347.

The Hospitality Committee volunteers serve at receptions after important events at Mary, Queen of Peace, such as: Confirmation, First Communion, Holy Saturday (RCIA Reception), 25th and 50th Anniversary Renewals and the Parish Mission.  We are seeking volunteers from the entire parish to help serve at the receptions throughout the year.  If you can offer your help at just one reception a year, your service will be much appreciated!  There is a great need for people who would be willing to co-chair these events by helping to organize servers and oversee just one reception each year.  The receptions are fun, with a chance to meet new people, and to see the smiling faces of parishioners.  What a wonderful way to welcome each other with the Love of Christ!  And to all those men who see the volunteers struggling to lift heavy items and rush to their aid, a special thank you to these unofficial members.  To volunteer for any of the receptions, please call Linda Cobb at 845-2387, email at linda@dbs-la.com or call the Church office at 626-6977.

Please take one of our brochures in the Church lobby for contact information for any of these ministries and call to talk about how you might offer your time and talents.

Mission Statement: The Women's Club of Mary, Queen of Peace Parish is devoted to assisting in the development of the Catholic Community through the nurturing of Family Life, giving service to others and always striving to be a welcoming and helpful segment of the community.  We will call forth and share God-given gifts and talents and respond to God's call through Christian Service.
